Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBBP) is now the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

On January 11, 2024, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced the potential end of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

Unless Congress approves additional funding for the ACP, the program is expected to run out of funds in April 2024. For more information, please visit https://www.fcc.gov/acp.

Congress recently created the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a new long-term, $14 billion program, which will replace the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBBP). The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently determining the rules for the ACP and final details about the program will not be released until sometime later this month. Metronet intends to participate in the new ACP, and we will share more details with you once the FCC releases the final rules.

The ACP officially began on December 31, 2021. Households fully enrolled in the EBBP as of December 31, 2021, will continue to receive their current monthly benefit during a 60-day transition period from December 31, 2021, through March 1, 2022.

Once the 60-day transition period is over, the maximum monthly benefit toward internet service will change from $50 per month to $30 per month for households not located on qualifying Tribal lands. The monthly benefit will remain at the current EBBP level of $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Please note that you may switch service offerings at any time.

You will receive additional information if you are required to take any steps to retain any benefit after March 1, 2022, once it becomes available in the coming weeks. Please visit the Federal Communication Commissions’ website at https://www.fcc.gov/acp for all details known at this time concerning the new Affordable Connectivity Program.
